After her father abandoned the family when she was very young, Shristi and her mother moved in with her maternal uncle. With an elderly grandfather unable to work and her uncle struggling to support his own family, their financial situation became increasingly difficult.

Despite working as a tailor, Shristi's mother could barely earn enough to meet the family's basic needs. As expenses mounted, Shristi was forced to discontinue her education, putting her dreams on hold.
